Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) leaves catastrophic damage in the Philippines

Super typhoon Yolanda, known internationally as Haiyan, is estimated to have killed 10,000 people in one province alone. There are 4.5 million Filipinos affected in the Eastern Visayas region, leaving thousands of families homeless. Yolanda wreaked havoc on November 8, smashing the Visayas region with sustained winds of 315 kph (195 mph) and gusts of 380 kph (235 mph). The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) described it as the strongest tropical cyclone to make landfall in recorded history.

Natural calamities like these often become catalysts in uniting people to help their fellowmen all over the world. Google created a Person Finder if you are looking for someone or if you have any information about a missing person. Google also made a crisis map so you can easily locate relief operations and evacuation centers. The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Player’s Association (NBPA) donated $250,000 to the US Fund for UNICEF in support of the organization’s relief efforts.

The typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda leave a very dreadful experience to the filipino people especially the people hit by the super typhoon . These nature calamities brought pain to most of us for losing their loveones, homes and means of living, but on the other side we should still have the hope that we should live life after all, we all know that moving on after that kind of experience will never be easy, moving on is the toughest journey in life, that’s so true, on the other hand we should have to realize why did it happen to us not to someone else, simply because we are strong people, that whenever we encounter difficulties in life, Filipino’s will help one another, the natural being of a good filipino will come out to help each other in any ways we can. And that alone we can get the hope that in time the painful experience will be able to heal and rebuild themselves with the great chance the creator has given them.

With the dramatic change in the climate, we people should expect Yolanda is not the last super typhoon to hit not only Philippines but the rest of the world. Yolanda brought devastating effects that left a mark in history. As of the moment, many people haven’t recovered from this catastrophic phenomena. But what is ironic is the fact that the massive devastation of Yolanda brought a massive help to the victims. As the Jesuits would say, Cura Personalis or men and women for others have prevailed in times of support and assistance. With the outburst of support, this would ease the primary problems of the victims such as food, water, and other necessary supply. Typhoon Yolanda is just a testimony on how, we, people are able to help each and every one especially in times of hardships. May this occurrence bring us the lessons and new learning to be prepared in the near future.

Typhoon Yolanda had left not only destruction on land but also emotional scars to us all. This was a reminder that we should value and be thankful for what we have and what are continually getting, especially the ones that are free. The air. The nature. Our lives. Let’s be thankful by loving and respecting these things.
